Highlands Hospital was chosen as Opioid Use Disorder Center of Excellence by Governor Wolf. With a patient-centered holistic approach to treatment and recovery from the disease of addiction, specifically to the opioid class of drugs, staff will navigate & link clients to medical, psychosocial and other support services and provide ongoing assessment and continuity of care. Weekend Nursing Shift Supervisor – Casual. Seeking an RN to function as House Supervisor on off-shifts and weekends. Requires nursing experience and current ACLS, with critical care training and some management experience preferred.
Psychiatrist – Outpatient Clinic – Highlands Hospital has an excellent opportunity available for a self-motivated psychiatrist who will provide clinical care for clients and oversight of the hospitals’ newly opened behavioral health outpatient clinic. The Hospital is seeking 16 hours per week of psychiatric time. Qualifications: Requires a medical degree in Psychiatry, a valid PA medical license, and successful credentialing on the hospital’s medical staff.
Staff Nurse / RN- For Med-Surg unit with Acuity Adaptable beds that can be designated as needed for those patients requiring a higher level of care, including intensive monitoring and specialized technology. Staff MUST have or be willing to attain critical care training. Requires current Pa license Knowledge of nursing principles and theory of biophysical and behavioral sciences. Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, family, and health care team members. Must demonstrate competency through mechanisms defined by Hospital policy.
RN Staff Nurse – Full-time and Casual. Current PA Registered License, Requires 1 year critical care or emergency room experience preferred and critical care training. ACLS certification required; PALS required within 1 year of hire.
Case Worker – Current Pa. RN license or Bachelors degree in Social Work. Prefer 2 years experience in Mental Health and/or Case Management/Utilization Review.
Staff Nurse / RN – Must have related experience or sincere interest in developing knowledge and skills in behavioral health nursing.
Licensed Practical Nurse/ LPN – Current Pa. LPN license; Pa. Act 33/34 and CPSL clearances (upon hire, or subject to CPSL “provisional” status), Completion of crises prevention program or equivalent (upon hire or prior to completing probation). Must be able to demonstrate competency in all areas of LPN scope practice, as required by hospital. Training or experience relevant to mental health care or services is preferred.
Clerk Typist/ Lab – Part-time. H.S. graduate or the equivalent, 30 wpm typing and ability to demonstrate basic word processing skills on a PC. Knowledge of medical terminology. Good organizational skills and communication skills, to relate well with all levels of staff.
Tech Assistant/Phlebotomist –Part-time. Requires recent training or experience. Will perform venipunctures on inpatients and outpatients, as well as other related functions for clinical laboratory. Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
OTHER STAFF POSITIONS
Medical Records Assistant – Casual. High school diploma, or the equivalent. General knowledge of medical records practices preferred – including medical terminology and word processing. Ability to type 30 wpm. Physical ability to file and pull records on a regular basis.
Pharmacy Technician –Casual position. Must possess basic computer skills, mathematical aptitude, and attention to detail. Daylight, including rotating weekends.
Must possess a High School Diploma or the equivalent and must meet ONE of the following requirements for education/work experience:
** Successful completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program or certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board; with at least one year relevant pharmacy experience
** Certification through the National Pharmacy Technician Board, Inc. with at least one year of relevant pharmacy technician experience.
** Minimum of two years relevant Hospital Pharmacy technician experience.
** Completion of four years of a six-year Pharmacy Degree Program, with at least one year of relevant experience.
Patient Registrar– Part-time. H.S. graduate or the equivalent. 20 wpm typing and ability to demonstrate basic word processing skills on a PC. Knowledge of medical terminology and Good organizational skills and communication skills, to relate well with all levels of staff.
AUTISM PROGRAM: Staff is currently being added due to enrollment growth.
Classroom Behavioral Therapist [CBT] – The Classroom Behavioral Therapist, or “CBT”, works intensively with 1-2 students under the direction of a Coordinating Teacher. The CBT follows a structured ABA regimen, to continually reinforce behavioral changes that truly make a difference in the daily lives of the students and their families. The CBT requires an associates or bachelor’s degree in education, special education, psychology, speech, or other developmentally-related field. A CBT must be self-motivated, physically able to manage active students, and emotionally able to remain patient and focused. Previous Experience working with children with autism preferred. Current CPSL clearances within 30 days of hire. FBI clearance from Department of Education required.

GENERAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION Nursing Specialty Areas:
Behavioral Health – We provide the only inpatient behavioral health care in Fayette County, which has been a specialized service of Highlands Hospital for over 30 years! Traditional behavioral health treatment is enhanced with other healing modalities such as music therapy, guided imagery, and drum circle activities. 29 beds are located among two comfortable and attractive inpatient units. The larger unit was recently reopened after a complete renovation, which incorporates enhanced safety features for both staff and patients, improved design for patient care and activities, and many other state of the art features for modern behavioral health care.
Medical Surgical/AAB – Our Med Surg units serve pediatric/adult/geriatric patients, and include several telemetry beds. In addition, Acuity-Adaptable beds can be designated as needed for those patients requiring a higher level of care, including specialized technology, and intensive monitoring by specially trained nursing staff.
Emergency Department – Full-service 24/7 ED staffed with specialty qualified physicians and RNs, and containing many state-of-the art Emergency Medicine technologies.
Surgical Services – 2 Surgical Suites, Endoscopy and Procedure Room. Providing 24/7 inpatient and outpatient peri-operative and endoscopy care for adult and pediatric patients.
Short-Procedure Unit – 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. operating hours, M-F. The SPU is a six bed pre/post operative recovery area for all outpatient procedures. The unit also administers intravenous therapy and injections on an outpatient basis.
Nursing Scheduling Options: Full-Time – Part-time – Casual Status 8-hour and 12-hour shifts available For many RNs, our unique “Weekender” program is a perfect fit:
- Work only 2 Weekends per month (2 12-hour shifts each weekend)
- Special pay rate in lieu of benefits
- Additional weekday work available, but not required
- Health Insurance available to purchase at group rates
