Emergency Room Manager – Oversees the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management and assumes 24/7 accountability for the ED dept.
- Under administrative direction, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of patient care.
- Develop and evaluate all personnel in Emergency Services.
- Facilitate unit meetings
- Responsible for selection, orientation and retention of staff
- Demonstrates leadership through coaching, evaluations and corrective action.
- Train ER/hospital staff in departmental/hospital disaster protocols (internal and external).
- Resource for disasters and disaster drills.
- Minimum 3 years in a hospital setting with at least 2 years in Emergency Care with demonstrated team leader or leadership experience required.
Director of Case Management – Full-Time – Must have knowledge of case management, discharge planning, and utilization review processes, as well as strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with physicians, department managers and hospital staff at all levels. Requires RN or BSW with at least 5 years relevant experience, (including case management experience in a hospital setting), or must otherwise meet all education and work experience requirements to be eligible to take CCM examination.

RN Staff Nurse – Full-time, Weekender and Casual. Current PA Registered License, critical care or emergency room experience preferred and critical care training. ACLS certification required; PALS required within 1 year of hire.
RN Staff Nurse– Med Surg/AAB (Adaptable Acuity Beds) – Full-time and Part-time. Requires critical care training, current ACLS, and related experience.
Behavior Specialist Consultant (BSC) – Independent Contractor – Requirements: Masters degree in a mental health field and Licensed mental health professional. (LBS, LSW, LCSW, LPC or LMFT). Valid PA Driver’s license and reliable transportation. Required background checks (Childline, State Police, FBI). Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the treatment of Autism. Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis.
Staff Nurse / RN – Must have related experience or sincere interest in developing knowledge and skills in behavioral health nursing.
Psych Tech – Serve as active member of treatment team in inpatient mental health care setting. Require bachelor’s degree in psychology or related social science.
Therapeutic Staff Support (TSS) – Provision of outpatient therapeutic services for children and youth diagnosed with Autism. Independent Contract position. Qualifications – Associates Degree, or 60 credits towards a Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, counseling, sociology, education, criminal justice or a similar human service field. Will consider appropriate mix of education and experience. Requires, at least, three (3) years experience involving direct contact with children or a completed Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience working with children.
Licensed Practical Nurse/ LPN – Current Pa. LPN license; Pa. Act 33/34 and CPSL clearances (upon hire, or subject to CPSL “provisional” status), Completion of crises prevention program or equivalent (upon hire or prior to completing probation). Must be able to demonstrate competency in all areas of LPN scope practice, as required by hospital. Training or experience relevant to mental health care or services is preferred.
Mental Health Aide – Part-time and Casual. High School education or equivalent. Physical ability to provide direct total physical care for patients; good observation skills. Completion of approved crises intervention program. Ability to provide necessary physical/personal care, as acquired through nursing aide training. Relevant work experience, or on the job training during Highlands probation period. Ability to interact with patients and families in a therapeutic manner, as acquired through. Psychiatric tech training, related education, and/or relevant work experience; or demonstrates adequate understanding of appropriate patient/family interaction in the mental health setting. CPSL clearances within 30 days of hire or transfer to the department.
OTHER STAFF POSITIONS
Maintenance / Facilities Technician – Part-time. Knowledge of occupational and life safety standards and codes. Knowledge of high pressure steam boilers, HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, building trades and aseptic cleaning practices preferred. Valid PA driver’s license. Must meet ONE of the following requirements for education/work experience:
Two (2) year degree from a college or technical school with emphasis on engineering or mechanical, electrical and construction technologies with certification. OR Eight (8) years of technical experience in facilities, with ability to demonstrate skill level required for achieving position.
Tech Assistant/Phlebotomist –Part-time. Requires recent training or experience. Will perform venipunctures on inpatients and outpatients, as well as other related functions for clinical laboratory. Rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Unit Clerk – Part-time Day and Afternoon Shift, including Weekends and Holidays. Requirements: Knowledge of medical terminology, common abbreviations, and standard hospital procedures for orderly and timely maintenance of medical records. Ability to accurately transcribe physician orders such as those pertaining to medications, IV solutions, and diagnostic procedures. Ability to manually transcribe physician orders efficiently and legibly. Prefer certification with prior formal unit clerk training and hospital based externship
AUTISM PROGRAM: Staff is currently being added due to enrollment growth.
Speech Therapist – Part-time. Licensed speech therapist for Highlands Hospital Regional Center for Autism. Speech therapist will provide speech and language therapy to students with an autism spectrum diagnosis. The speech therapist will administer evaluations, design and carry out treatment as part of the student’s individualized education plan. They will participate as a member of the education team and provide feedback and consultation to teaching staff.
Special Education Teacher – Full-time teacher for licensed private school. Collaborate with staff to implement curriculum utilizing ABA principles and ongoing data collection and assessment. Work directly with students, and coordinate support staff activities. Bachelors in special education preferred.
Classroom Behavioral Therapist [CBT] – The Classroom Behavioral Therapist, or “CBT”, works intensively with 1-2 students under the direction of a Coordinating Teacher. The CBT follows a structured ABA regimen, to continually reinforce behavioral changes that truly make a difference in the daily lives of the students and their families. The CBT requires an associates or bachelor’s degree in education, special education, psychology, speech, or other developmentally-related field. A CBT must be self-motivated, physically able to manage active students, and emotionally able to remain patient and focused. Previous Experience working with children with autism preferred. Current CPSL clearances within 30 days of hire. FBI clearance from Department of Education required.

GENERAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION Nursing Specialty Areas:
Behavioral Health – We provide the only inpatient behavioral health care in Fayette County, which has been a specialized service of Highlands Hospital for over 30 years! Traditional behavioral health treatment is enhanced with other healing modalities such as music therapy, guided imagery, and drum circle activities. 29 beds are located among two comfortable and attractive inpatient units. The larger unit was recently reopened after a complete renovation, which incorporates enhanced safety features for both staff and patients, improved design for patient care and activities, and many other state of the art features for modern behavioral health care.
Medical Surgical/AAB – Our Med Surg units serve pediatric/adult/geriatric patients, and include several telemetry beds. In addition, Acuity-Adaptable beds can be designated as needed for those patients requiring a higher level of care, including specialized technology, and intensive monitoring by specially trained nursing staff.
Emergency Department – Full-service 24/7 ED staffed with specialty qualified physicians and RNs, and containing many state-of-the art Emergency Medicine technologies.
Surgical Services – 2 Surgical Suites, Endoscopy and Procedure Room. Providing 24/7 inpatient and outpatient peri-operative and endoscopy care for adult and pediatric patients.
Short-Procedure Unit – 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. operating hours, M-F. The SPU is a six bed pre/post operative recovery area for all outpatient procedures. The unit also administers intravenous therapy and injections on an outpatient basis.
Nursing Scheduling Options: Full-Time – Part-time – Casual Status 8-hour and 12-hour shifts available For many RNs, our unique “Weekender” program is a perfect fit:
- Work only 2 Weekends per month (2 12-hour shifts each weekend)
- Special pay rate in lieu of benefits
- Additional weekday work available, but not required
